Frequently Asked Questions

What is Keep Veterans Smiling?

Keep Veterans Smiling (KVS) is a non-profit private foundation 501(c)(3) established by Dr. Sam Nechamkin on May 5, 2016. The purpose is to raise funds to provide free and low-cost dental treatment for U.S. Military Veterans living in the Texoma area. The program includes a Day of Reciprocity for basic dental treatment, and an opportunity for select Veterans to be granted an extensive treatment plan, at no charge to the Veteran.

What is Keep Veterans Smiling's primary activity?

Each year on the third Tuesday of September, Keep Veterans Smiling offers a Day of Reciprocity — an entire day of free basic dental treatment for as many Veterans as time will allow. Treatment offered is limited to cleaning, a filling, or an extraction.

Who is eligible for treatment on the Day of Reciprocity?

Any person living in the Texoma area who honorably served in a branch of the United States Military is eligible.

How is service provided on the Day of Reciprocity?

No appointments are accepted. Patients are treated on a "first-come-first-served" basis. The day begins at 8:00 am and continues through the entire day. Typically, as many as 100 patients will receive treatment. There is no cost to the Veteran for his/her choice of a basic treatment limited to cleaning, a filling, or an extraction.

What do I need to do before I come for treatment?

Some patients with certain medical conditions need to consult with a physician before treatment. Please visit this page for additional information.

What if extensive dental treatment is required?

Each year, Keep Veterans Smiling accepts applications from Veterans who require extensive dental treatment. Veterans are selected from applications submitted during the previous 12 months by the Veterans themselves, or their families, friends, or a concerned citizen. Veterans selected will receive a complete review and be given a written treatment plan, appointments scheduled, and services provided, at no charge. Learn more.

Who selects the Veterans to receive extensive treatment?

All applications received by the deadline are reviewed by Premier Dentistry's professional staff and a determination is made based on need.

When are the Veterans selected for extensive treatment notified?

Veterans selected for additional extensive dental treatment will be notified in November.

How can a Veteran apply for extensive treatment, or be submitted by a family member, a friend, or a concerned citizen?

There are two ways to apply:

Submit an application online at this website and submit it electronically by the deadline. You will receive a notice when the application has been submitted.

Pick up an application at Premier Dentistry, 1005 Sara Swamy Dr., Sherman TX 75090, complete it and return it by the deadline.
